The New London/Lake Sunapee area is well
known for its beauty and charm, its clean
environment, and its peaceful way of life.
It offers excellent schools, hospitals,
libraries, restaurants and shops, and is
only a half-hour from Concord or Hanover.
Lake Sunapee, Pleasant Lake and other nearby
lakes and ponds are perfect for swimming,
sailing, canoeing, water skiing and fishing.
Winter lake sports include skating, ice
fishing, and ice boating. Mount Sunapee and
Ragged Mountain ski areas offer excellent
downhill and snowboarding trails. Mt.
Kearsarge is the ideal size for family
hikes, and many other nature trails are
available for walking and enjoying the
spectacular scenery.
Year-round entertainment options abound as
well. Band concerts, musical performances,
parades, antique and art shows, lectures,
plays, antique car and boat shows and golf
tournaments are regular events, as are open
houses at the Historical Society, garden
tours at the Hay Estate,
demonstrations
at Musterfield Farm and the League of New
Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair held at Mount
Sunapee. Colby-Sawyer College, in New
London, provides public access to cultural
events, and its new sports facility includes
an indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts
and a world-class workout facility.
The area towns (New London, Sunapee, Wilmot,
Sutton, Newbury, Andover, Bradford, Warner)
tend to attract young families with
children, professionals, artists and
retirees for the many amenities which are
offered here. Many people who come to stay
are those who have been here before. “I went
to school at Colby-Sawyer, and I always
loved it here,” is as commonly heard as, “I
spent summers here growing up, and I always
wanted to come back someday.”
